Devredilmiş [[tld|TLD]], [[iana|IANA]] tarafından DNS kök bölgesine resmi olarak eklenen, yani canlı olan ve kamuya açık internette çözümlenebilen TLD'dir. Devredilmemiş TLD ise onaylanmış veya başvurusu yapılmış ancak ad sunucu kayıtları henüz kök bölgeye eklenmemiş TLD'dir. Bu ayrım önemlidir çünkü bir TLD ICANN değerlendirmesini geçip imzalı Kayıt Defteri Sözleşmesine sahip olurken teknik kurulum sırasında aylarca devredilmemiş kalabilir. IANA Kök Bölge Veritabanında görünen tüm TLD'ler devredilmiştir.
