위임된 [[tld|TLD]]는 [[iana|IANA]]에 의해 DNS 루트 존에 공식적으로 추가된 TLD로, 공개 인터넷에서 해석 가능한 상태입니다. 미위임 TLD는 승인되었거나 신청이 이루어졌지만 네임서버 레코드가 아직 루트 존에 삽입되지 않은 TLD입니다. 이 차이는 중요한데, TLD가 ICANN 심사를 통과하고 레지스트리 계약에 서명했더라도 기술적 설정 동안 수개월간 미위임 상태로 남을 수 있기 때문입니다. IANA 루트 존 데이터베이스에서 볼 수 있는 모든 TLD는 위임된 상태입니다.
