IDN คือชื่อโดเมนที่มีตัวอักษรจากอักษรที่ไม่ใช่ละติน (จีน อาหรับ ซีริลลิก ฯลฯ) หรือตัวอักษรละตินที่มีเครื่องหมายกำกับเสียง IDN จะถูกเข้ารหัสด้วย[[punycode|Punycode]]เพื่อให้เข้ากันได้กับ DNS
