Un IDN es un nombre de dominio que incluye caracteres de escrituras no latinas (chino, árabe, cirílico, etc.) o caracteres latinos con marcas diacríticas. Los IDNs se codifican utilizando [[punycode|Punycode]] para compatibilidad con DNS.
Ejemplo
The domain 例え.jp (Japanese) is encoded in DNS as xn--r8jz45g.jp using Punycode.
