Un IDN est un nom de domaine incluant des caractères d'écritures non latines (chinois, arabe, cyrillique, etc.) ou des caractères latins avec des marques diacritiques. Les IDN sont encodés en [[punycode|Punycode]] pour la compatibilité avec le DNS.
Exemple
The domain 例え.jp (Japanese) is encoded in DNS as xn--r8jz45g.jp using Punycode.
