A nameserver is a server that stores DNS records and responds to DNS queries for a domain zone. Nameservers form the backbone of the [[dns|DNS]] system, directing traffic by answering lookup requests with the appropriate IP addresses or other record data.
Example
Your domain might use ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com as its nameservers, each holding identical copies of your DNS records for redundancy.
