A DNS resolver is software or a service that performs recursive DNS lookups on behalf of clients. When you type a URL in your browser, the resolver contacts multiple [[nameserver|nameservers]] in sequence — from root servers to TLD servers to authoritative servers — to find the final IP address.
Example
Google's public DNS resolver at 8.8.8.8 and Cloudflare's at 1.1.1.1 are popular alternatives to ISP-provided resolvers.
