.dev

Developer

Generic New gTLD (2012 Round)

Overview

Every .dev domain must be served over HTTPS. Google Registry preloaded the entire extension into browser HSTS lists before opening general registration in 2019, making encrypted transport a property of the namespace rather than a per-site configuration choice. Approximately 600,000 domains are registered. The intended audience is explicit in the string: developer portfolios, documentation sites, internal tooling, and open-source project pages make up the bulk of observed use.
