Test

0 top-level domains

Test top-level domains are reserved by IANA for use in software testing, documentation, and examples. These TLDs — .test, .example, .invalid, and .localhost — are guaranteed to never be delegated in the global DNS root, making them safe to use in code samples, development environments, and technical documentation without risk of conflicting with real websites. RFC 2606 and RFC 6761 formalize these reservations. The .test TLD is particularly useful for internationalized domain name (IDN) testing, as ICANN has created test versions in multiple scripts including Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Tamil, Thai, and Yiddish. Developers and network administrators rely on these reserved TLDs to safely test DNS configurations, email routing, and web applications without accidentally sending traffic to production domains.
