La recherche DNS inversée mappe une [[ip-address|adresse IP]] vers un nom de domaine à l'aide d'enregistrements PTR. C'est l'opposé d'une recherche [[dns|DNS]] standard. Le DNS inversé est couramment utilisé pour la vérification des serveurs de messagerie ; de nombreux serveurs de mail refusent les messages provenant d'IPs sans enregistrements PTR valides.
