يُعيد بحث DNS العكسي تعيين [[ip-address|عنوان IP]] إلى اسم نطاق باستخدام سجلات PTR، وهو عكس بحث [[dns|DNS]] الاعتيادي. يُستخدم DNS العكسي عادةً للتحقق من خوادم البريد، إذ ترفض كثير من خوادم البريد الرسائل الواردة من عناوين IP دون سجلات PTR صالحة.
