Tra cứu DNS ngược ánh xạ [[ip-address|địa chỉ IP]] thành tên miền bằng cách dùng bản ghi PTR. Đây là ngược lại của tra cứu [[dns|DNS]] tiêu chuẩn. DNS ngược thường được dùng để xác minh máy chủ email — nhiều máy chủ thư từ chối thư từ các IP không có bản ghi PTR hợp lệ.
