Reverse-DNS-Lookups ordnen eine [[ip-address|IP-Adresse]] mithilfe von PTR-Einträgen einem Domainnamen zu. Es ist das Gegenteil einer normalen [[dns|DNS]]-Abfrage. Reverse DNS wird häufig zur Verifizierung von E-Mail-Servern verwendet — viele Mailserver lehnen Nachrichten von IPs ohne gültige PTR-Einträge ab.
