Der GAC (Governmental Advisory Committee) ist ein Beratungsorgan der [[icann|ICANN]], das aus Vertretern nationaler Regierungen und zwischenstaatlicher Organisationen besteht. Im Gegensatz zu unterstützenden Organisationen berät der GAC anstatt zu stimmen, aber sein Rat hat besonderes Gewicht: Wenn der GAC einen Konsensrat erteilt, muss der ICANN-Vorstand ihm entweder folgen oder erklären, warum er dies nicht tun wird. Der GAC hat historisch Bedenken zu sensiblen Strings im [[new-gtld-program|Neuen gTLD-Programm]] (z.B. .amazon, .patagonia) geäußert. Mehr als 180 Regierungen nehmen als Mitglieder teil.
