El GAC (Comité Asesor Gubernamental) es un órgano asesor de [[icann|ICANN]] compuesto por representantes de gobiernos nacionales y organizaciones intergubernamentales. A diferencia de las organizaciones de apoyo, el GAC asesora en vez de votar, pero su asesoramiento tiene un peso especial: cuando el GAC emite una recomendación de consenso, el Consejo de Administración de ICANN debe seguirla o explicar por qué no lo hará. El GAC ha expresado preocupaciones sobre cadenas sensibles en el [[new-gtld-program|Programa de Nuevos gTLDs]] (como .amazon, .patagonia). Más de 180 gobiernos participan como miembros.
