نطاق TLD بنظام ASCII هو [[tld|نطاق علوي]] مكوّن بالكامل من أحرف مجموعة ASCII (A–Z، 0–9، والشرطة)، في مقابل [[idn-tld|نطاقات IDN]] التي تستخدم نصوصاً غير لاتينية. معظم نطاقات TLD في منطقة الجذر تعتمد ASCII. نطاقات ASCII متوافقة أصلاً مع جميع برمجيات [[dns|DNS]] ولا تحتاج لترميز خاص، في حين يجب تحويل نطاقات IDN إلى تمثيل [[punycode|Punycode]] (مثل xn--...) عند إرسالها عبر بنية DNS التحتية.

.com, .org, and .shop are ASCII TLDs; by contrast, .中国 (China) is an IDN TLD that is transmitted as .xn--fiqs8s through the DNS.
