ASCII TLD, non-Latin alfabelerini kullanan [[idn-tld|IDN TLD'lerinin]] aksine, yalnızca ASCII karakter setindeki (A–Z, 0–9 ve tireler) karakterlerden oluşan bir [[tld|üst düzey etki alanı]]dır. Kök bölgesindeki TLD'lerin büyük çoğunluğu ASCII tabanlıdır. ASCII TLD'ler tüm [[dns|DNS]] yazılımlarıyla doğal olarak uyumludur ve özel kodlama gerektirmez; IDN TLD'ler ise DNS altyapısı üzerinden iletilirken [[punycode|Punycode]] gösterimine (örn. xn--...) dönüştürülmeleri gerekir.
Örnek
.com, .org, and .shop are ASCII TLDs; by contrast, .中国 (China) is an IDN TLD that is transmitted as .xn--fiqs8s through the DNS.
