WHOIS dày (thick) và mỏng (thin) mô tả hai mô hình lưu trữ dữ liệu liên hệ [[registrant]] trong hệ thống [[whois|WHOIS]] của TLD. Trong mô hình mỏng, [[registry-operator|registry]] chỉ lưu dữ liệu kỹ thuật (nameserver và [[registrar]] phụ trách), còn thông tin liên hệ đầy đủ do [[registrar]] cá nhân nắm giữ. Trong mô hình dày, registry tập trung tất cả dữ liệu liên hệ — registrant, quản trị và kỹ thuật — trong một cơ sở dữ liệu có thẩm quyền duy nhất. Before 2013, a .com WHOIS query returned minimal data from Verisign's registry, then pointed you to the registrar's own WHOIS server for contact details — the thin model. Post-migration, Verisign's thick WHOIS returns all registrant and contact information directly.
