CNAME (Canonical Name) kaydı, bir etki alanı adından diğerine bir takma ad oluşturur. Bir [[a-record|A kaydı]] gibi IP adresine işaret etmek yerine, CNAME farklı bir etki alanı adına işaret eder; bu etki alanı daha sonra bir IP adresine çözümlenir.
Örnek
A CNAME record pointing www.example.com to example.com means both addresses reach the same server.
