Punycode é uma sintaxe de codificação que converte [[idn|nomes de domínio internacionalizados]] com caracteres Unicode em strings compatíveis com ASCII que começam com 'xn--'. Isso permite que o [[dns|DNS]], que só suporta ASCII, lide com nomes de domínio não latinos.
Exemplo
The domain münchen.de (Munich with umlaut) is encoded as xn--mnchen-3ya.de in Punycode.
