.app

Application

Generic New gTLD (2012 Round)

Overview

Google Registry launched .app in 2018, a year ahead of its sibling .dev, under the same security regime: the extension is HSTS-preloaded, so browsers refuse plaintext connections to any domain within it. Roughly 500,000 domains are registered. Mobile and web application companies form the core constituency, using the extension either for a product's public site or for the application endpoint itself. General registration is open, with the HTTPS requirement the only binding condition.
