Un DNS resolver es un software o servicio que realiza búsquedas DNS recursivas en nombre de los clientes. Cuando escribe una URL en su navegador, el resolver contacta múltiples [[nameserver|nameservers]] en secuencia — desde los servidores raíz hasta los servidores TLD y los servidores autoritativos — para encontrar la dirección IP final.
