Ein DNS-Resolver ist eine Software oder ein Dienst, der rekursive DNS-Abfragen im Auftrag von Clients durchführt. Wenn Sie eine URL in Ihren Browser eingeben, kontaktiert der Resolver nacheinander mehrere [[nameserver|Nameserver]] — von Root-Servern über TLD-Server bis hin zu autoritativen Servern —, um die endgültige IP-Adresse zu finden.
