OpenNIC es un proyecto de [[alternative-roots|raíz DNS alternativa]] operado por voluntarios que ofrece un conjunto de TLDs no-ICANN junto con el espacio de nombres ICANN estándar. OpenNIC resuelve todos los [[tld|TLDs]] convencionales mientras que también sirve extensiones mantenidas por la comunidad como .geek, .free, .indy, .fur, .parody y .pirate. No hay autoridad central — los TLDs son votados y administrados por la comunidad OpenNIC.
