OpenNIC — волонтёрский проект [[alternative-roots|альтернативного корня DNS]], предлагающий набор не-ICANN TLD наряду со стандартным пространством имён ICANN. OpenNIC разрешает все обычные [[tld|TLD]], а также обслуживает управляемые сообществом расширения: .geek, .free, .indy, .fur, .parody, .pirate. Центральной власти нет — TLD голосуются и администрируются сообществом OpenNIC. Для доступа к доменам OpenNIC пользователи должны настроить устройство или маршрутизатор на использование одного из публичных [[nameserver|серверов имён]] OpenNIC.
