بموجب سياسة [[udrp|UDRP]]، يجوز للـ[[registrant|المسجِّل]] دحض شكوى نزاع النطاق بإثبات مصلحة أو حق مشروع في اسم النطاق. تعترف سياسة [[icann|ICANN]] بثلاث فئات رئيسية للمصلحة المشروعة: الاستخدام الحسن النية للنطاق لسلع أو خدمات قبل تلقّي إشعار النزاع؛ والشهرة باسم النطاق حتى دون حقوق في العلامة التجارية؛ والاستخدام غير التجاري أو المعقول المشروع — كمواقع التعليق والنقد و[[parody-domain|المحاكاة الساخرة]] — دون نية تضليل المستهلكين أو الإساءة للعلامة التجارية. تنتقل عبء الإثبات إلى المدعى عليه حالما يُثبت المُشتكي القضية بظاهرها، غير أن عبء الإثبات النهائي يظل على المُشتكي.
