Çok yollu DNS, en yaygın olarak mDNS (Çok Noktaya Yayın DNS, RFC 6762) olarak uygulanır ve yerel bir ağdaki cihazların, yerel alt ağdaki tüm cihazlara sorgu çok noktaya yayınlayarak merkezi bir [[dns|DNS]] sunucusu olmadan ana bilgisayar adlarını keşfetmesine ve çözmesine olanak tanır. .local sözde TLD'si mDNS için ayrılmıştır ve genel DNS'de devredilmemelidir. mDNS, Apple'ın Bonjour'u, Linux'un Avahi'si ve Windows 10+'ta uygulanmıştır.
Örnek
When you print to printer.local on a Mac, Bonjour uses mDNS to broadcast a query over the local network. The printer responds with its IP address, and the Mac connects — no DNS server required.
