Мультипутевой DNS, чаще всего реализуемый как mDNS (многоадресный DNS, RFC 6762), позволяет устройствам в локальной сети обнаруживать и разрешать имена хостов без централизованного [[dns|DNS]]-сервера, рассылая запросы всем устройствам в локальной подсети. Псевдо-TLD .local зарезервирован для mDNS и не должен делегироваться в публичном DNS. mDNS реализован в Apple Bonjour, Linux Avahi и Windows 10+, являясь основой сетей с нулевой конфигурацией (Zeroconf) для таких сервисов, как AirDrop, Chromecast и устройства умного дома.

When you print to printer.local on a Mac, Bonjour uses mDNS to broadcast a query over the local network. The printer responds with its IP address, and the Mac connects — no DNS server required.
