Authoritative DNS Server
An authoritative DNS server holds the original, definitive [[dns|DNS]] records for a zone. Unlike recursive [[dns-resolver|resolvers]] that query other servers, authoritative servers provide final answers because they are the source of truth for a domain's records.
Example
When you configure DNS records at your hosting provider, you're updating data on their authoritative DNS servers.
