A DNS zone file is a text file that describes a DNS zone, containing all the [[dns|DNS]] records for domains within that zone. Zone files follow a standardized format defined in RFC 1035 and are used by [[authoritative-dns|authoritative DNS servers]] to respond to queries.
Example
A zone file for example.com would contain A records, MX records, CNAME records, and other DNS entries for that domain.
