Domain rental (also called domain leasing) is a monetisation model in which the domain owner retains ownership but licenses the right to use the name to a tenant for a recurring monthly or annual fee. The arrangement benefits owners who want passive income without relinquishing a valuable asset, and tenants who cannot afford the full acquisition price upfront. Rental agreements are often structured with a purchase option, turning the deal into a lease-to-own arrangement. Monthly fees for premium [[geo-domain|geo]] and [[keyword-domain|keyword]] domains typically range from $200 to several thousand dollars.
Example
An investor rents 'atlantaroofing.com' to a local contractor for $350/month with a purchase option of $30,000. After 18 months ($6,300 collected), the contractor exercises the option.
