sTLD (Sponsored Top-Level Domain)

A sponsored TLD (sTLD) is a specialized [[tld|TLD]] managed by an organization that sets eligibility requirements for registrants. Unlike open [[gtld|gTLDs]], sTLDs serve specific communities and enforce policies that match their purpose.

Example

.edu is sponsored by EDUCAUSE (restricted to accredited institutions), .gov by the US GSA (US government only), and .museum by MuseDoma.
