Le Programme de Nouveaux gTLD est l'initiative de l'[[icann|ICANN]] visant à étendre considérablement l'espace de noms de domaine au-delà des gTLDs historiques (tels que .com, .net et .org). Le premier tour de candidatures a ouvert en 2012, a reçu 1 930 candidatures et a conduit à la délégation de plus de 1 200 nouvelles extensions génériques — allant de .app, .blog et .shop à des chaînes communautaires comme .nyc et des TLDs de marque comme .google. Le programme a introduit des mécanismes incluant le [[tmch|TMCH]], l'[[urs|URS]], la [[sunrise-period|Période Sunrise]] et un processus d'enchères compétitives.
