Alternative DNS-Wurzeln sind Namensraumsysteme, die unabhängig von der offiziellen [[icann|ICANN]]-verwalteten DNS-Rootzone betrieben werden und zusätzliche [[tld|TLDs]] oder vollständig parallele Hierarchien einführen, die im Standard-Internet nicht sichtbar sind. Benutzer müssen ihre [[dns-resolver|DNS-Resolver]] explizit konfigurieren, um die autoritativen Server der alternativen Wurzel zu befragen.
