Sunrise Period
A sunrise period is a pre-launch registration phase for a [[new-gtld|new gTLD]] during which trademark holders can register matching domain names before the extension opens to the general public. This protects brand owners from [[cybersquatting]].
Example
Before .shop opened to the public, trademark holders like Nike could register nike.shop during the sunrise period.
