제한된 일반 TLD는 특정 용도를 위한 레거시 [[gtld|gTLD]]의 하위 범주로, 커뮤니티 관리 조직을 가진 공식 [[stld|스폰서 TLD]]가 아닙니다. 세 가지 고전적인 제한된 일반 TLD는 .biz(비즈니스용), .name(개인용), .pro(면허 전문가용)입니다. 실제로 이러한 제한의 집행은 역사적으로 미미했으며, 사실상 개방형 등록처럼 취급되는 경우가 많습니다. 다만 .pro는 특정 2단계 도메인에 대해 전문가 인증 요건을 도입했습니다.
