Domain development is the strategy of building an active website on a domain name rather than parking or selling it, thereby creating an ongoing business or content asset. Developed domains can generate revenue through e-commerce, affiliate marketing, advertising, or SaaS products. From a [[domain-valuation|valuation]] perspective, a developed domain with real traffic and revenue is typically worth a multiple of annual earnings (3-5x) — often far exceeding what the naked domain name would sell for on the [[domain-aftermarket|aftermarket]]. Domain development requires more capital and time than [[domain-parking|parking]] but produces compounding returns through SEO and brand equity.
Example
An investor bought Hotels.ng for $500 and spent 18 months building a Nigerian hotel booking site; the developed business sold three years later for $120,000 — far exceeding any parking income.
