Branded search refers to queries that include a company or product name, such as 'Nike shoes' or 'Notion app'. A domain name that closely matches the brand reduces friction in branded search — users who search for the brand are more likely to click the domain that mirrors the name. High branded search volume is itself a positive [[domain-signal|domain signal]], as Google interprets consistent brand queries as evidence of legitimate entity authority. Choosing a [[memorability|memorable]] domain that is easy to spell and type reduces brand search leakage to competitors.
Example
If your brand is 'Sprout' but your domain is sproutapp.io, users searching 'Sprout' may land on competitors with more exact name matches before finding you.
