Eine gTLD (generische Top-Level-Domain) ist eine [[tld|TLD]] mit drei oder mehr Zeichen, die keinem bestimmten Land zugeordnet ist. Zu den Legacy-gTLDs zählen .com, .net und .org. Seit 2012 hat das ICANN-Programm für neue gTLDs über 1.200 neue gTLDs wie .app, .dev und .shop eingeführt.
