DNS Round Robin ist eine einfache Lastverteilungstechnik, bei der mehrere [[a-record|A-Einträge]] oder [[aaaa-record|AAAA-Einträge]] mit unterschiedlichen [[ip-address|IP-Adressen]] einem einzelnen Hostnamen zugeordnet werden. [[recursive-dns|Resolver]] rotieren der Reihe nach durch die Adressen und verteilen eingehende Verbindungen auf mehrere Server. Da Round Robin auf DNS-Ebene randomisiert und nicht sitzungsbewusst ist, bietet es keine Zustandsprüfung oder klebrige Sitzungen; ein ausgefallener Server empfängt weiterhin Datenverkehr, bis die Einträge manuell aktualisiert werden oder der [[ttl|TTL]] abläuft. Ausgefeiltere Alternativen sind Anycast-Routing, GeoDNS und Anwendungsschicht-Lastverteiler.
Beispiel
A website with three servers at 1.2.3.4, 1.2.3.5, and 1.2.3.6 can list all three as A records for www.example.com; successive DNS lookups return them in rotation, spreading traffic roughly evenly across all three servers.
