DNS bölgesi, tek bir [[authoritative-dns|yetkili sunucu]] veya koordineli bir sunucu grubu tarafından yönetilen [[dns|DNS]] ad alanının idari bir bölümüdür. Bölge, domain ile aynı şey değildir: bir domain sahibi, [[dns-delegation|delegasyon]] kullanarak ad alanını birden fazla bölgeye bölebilir ya da tek bir bölge birden fazla domaini kapsayabilir. Her bölge, zorunlu [[soa-record|SOA kaydıyla]] başlayan [[zone-file|bölge dosyasıyla]] tanımlanır ve yetkili sunucunun yanıtlamaktan sorumlu olduğu tüm DNS kayıtlarını içerir. example.com and staging.example.com may live in separate DNS zones — the parent zone for example.com contains an NS record delegating staging to its own authoritative server, creating an independent zone boundary.
