TLD 스트링은 신청자가 [[icann|ICANN의]] 새 gTLD 프로그램에서 새 [[tld|최상위 도메인]]으로 운영하고자 제안하는 특정 문자열입니다. 해당 스트링은 기존 TLD와의 혼동 방지를 위한 스트링 유사성 분석, 지리적 명칭 확인, 예약어 심사, 커뮤니티 이의 절차 등 여러 단계의 평가를 통과해야 위임될 수 있습니다. [[idn-tld|IDN TLD]]의 경우, 유니코드 형식과 이에 대응하는 [[punycode|퓨니코드]] 표현 모두가 TLD 스트링으로 평가됩니다.
