2000–2007

2000〜2001年のドットコム崩壊後、ドメイン業界はICANNの新たなガバナンス枠組みを中心に再編されました。過密状態にあった.com名前空間の圧力を緩和するため、.bizや.infoといった新たな後援型TLDが開始されました。UDRPはサイバースクワッティング紛争を解決するための法的手段を提供しました。2006年には欧州連合が.euを開始し、最初の国際化ドメイン名(IDN)のテストが非ラテン文字への道を開きました。

意義

ICANNはDNSポリシーに対する権限を統合し、今日も使われている認定レジストラモデルを確立しました。新しい汎用TLDは.com以外にも需要があることを証明し、その後10年に及ぶはるかに大規模な新gTLDプログラムへの道を開きました。
