URS (Uniform Rapid Suspension)
The URS (Uniform Rapid Suspension) is a streamlined trademark dispute mechanism introduced by [[icann|ICANN]] alongside the [[new-gtld-program|New gTLD Program]] as a complement to the [[udrp|UDRP]]. The URS offers a faster, lower-cost remedy — typically completed within days — but suspends the domain rather than transferring it. Complainants must meet a higher evidentiary standard than UDRP (clear and convincing evidence of infringement) and can only target clear-cut cases of trademark abuse. Successful URS outcomes lock the domain for the remainder of its registration term.
Example
A brand owner used URS to suspend typo-squatted domains like gooogle.shop within 72 hours of filing, preventing active harm without the longer UDRP process.
