Reserve Price

A reserve price is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept in a domain auction, set confidentially before bidding begins. If bidding does not reach the reserve, the auction closes without a sale. Some platforms display 'reserve not met' notifications to bidders, while others keep the reserve entirely hidden. Reserve prices protect sellers from distressed sales but can deter participation if set too high relative to perceived [[domain-appraisal-value|market value]].

Example

A seller lists 'fastpay.co' on Sedo with a reserve of $8,000. After bidding reaches $5,500, the auction closes unsold because the reserve was not met.
