SSL/TLS Certificate
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and its successor TLS (Transport Layer Security) are cryptographic protocols that encrypt data between a web browser and server. An SSL/TLS certificate binds a domain name to a cryptographic key, enabling HTTPS connections.
Example
The padlock icon in your browser indicates an active SSL/TLS certificate, meaning data between you and the website is encrypted.
