Blockchain Domain
A blockchain domain is a domain name stored as a record on a public blockchain rather than in a centrally managed DNS zone. Unlike traditional domains managed through [[registrar|registrars]] and [[icann|ICANN]]-governed registries, blockchain domains are owned as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and cannot be seized, expired, or censored by any central authority. They resolve to wallet addresses, IPFS content, and other on-chain data. Leading systems include [[ens|ENS]] (.eth), [[unstoppable-domains|Unstoppable Domains]] (.crypto, .wallet), and [[handshake-protocol|Handshake]] (custom TLDs), each with distinct resolver ecosystems and blockchain implementations.
Example
vitalik.eth is a blockchain domain on the Ethereum network that resolves to Vitalik Buterin's cryptocurrency wallet address, allowing anyone to send funds without copying a long hex string.
