Registry Operator
A registry operator is the organization responsible for maintaining the authoritative database of domain names for a specific [[tld|TLD]]. Unlike [[registrar|registrars]] who sell directly to consumers, registry operators manage the backend infrastructure.
Example
VeriSign is the registry operator for .com and .net, while Public Interest Registry (PIR) operates .org.
