Country Code

Overview

Until 2016, registration under Finland's country code was closed to applicants without a Finnish connection. The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency now operates .fi under open rules, and approximately 500,000 domains are registered in a country of about five and a half million people. Delegated in 1986, the extension is treated by Finnish businesses and public bodies as the default for domestic addressing, and the liberalisation has not materially changed that domestic character.
