Unlike country codes drawn from the ISO country list, .eu was created in 2005 to give citizens and organizations across the European Union a single supranational web identity. EURid operates the registry, which holds approximately 3.6 million domains. Eligibility is restricted to residents and organizations established in the EU or EEA.
